Wine? Sure (actually, SHAW)

What do we do on a slow day in Canberra? Well, one of our favourite things is to visit one of the many local wineries so that the Oldies can sample the produce. A great one is Shaw Winery at Murrumbateman, just 30 minutes up the road from home. They have just built a new cellar door building where you can try all their wines. Lots of people go there for "tastings", tiny sips of the different wines, but the Oldies reckon that they are better off getting a large glass of their favourite and a good cheese platter to go with it. It must work for them because I never get them away before they finish at least two rounds. Shaw put on a special event last weekend. They recreated a portion of the Battle of Waterloo. I wanted to go, but the weather was cold and miserable and the Oldies stayed home. Some people visit in style. This helicopter bought a couple in for a tasting followed by lunch at the great "Olleyville" restaurant, also part of the estate. That is a way that I would like to travel. Are the wines good? Actually they are excellent. The display of award winning vintages is just inside the entry; Shaw has won many Australian and overseas awards. It is well worth stopping here when you are visiting Canberra.
